The Rotary Club of Oldmeldrum has made donations of over £4,000 to a number of local, national and international charities following a successful year of activity.

Scottish Autism, Cancer Research UK, Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland, Gamscot and the Turriff Citizens Advice Bureau are amongst the charities which have benefited from the donations.

The funds were raised in large part from the club’s ‘Ythan Cycle Run’ held in September, which allowed riders to raise sponsorship, both for their own chosen charities as well as for the Oldmeldrum Rotary Club’s chosen charity, Scottish Autism.

Scottish Autism has received £3150 from the cycle run. In addition, Turriff Citizens Advice Bureau has received over £500, while Cancer Research UK and Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland have each received £100. Gamscot, a charity which seeks to build links between Scotland and The Gambia has also received £150.

Oldmeldrum Rotary Club President Richard Thomson said that the club was very pleased with the amounts which had been raised.

“I think everyone involved in the cycle run, from the club members and volunteers who helped to make it happen to the cyclists who made the event such a great day can be very proud of what their efforts have achieved”, he said.

“Rotary is all about supporting communities, both at home and further afield. I think that the range of organisations that our participants have helped us to support through this event reflects all that is best about who we are and what we do as an organisation.

“We’ve just completed our annual tour of the local community with Santa and his helpers, and once again, we’ve been overwhelmed by the level of support we have received. As next year progresses, we’ll be making sure that we continue to support opportunities for young people at home and abroad as well as helping to build strong communities wherever we can in the world.”
